How to Go about That First Phone Call!
You've looked over each other's profiles, exchanged messages. After weeks of connecting very well via mail, the two of you decide to take the interchange to a more personal level. Let's take stock of some basic phone etiquette, shall we?
1. Be on time all the time.
If you promised to call her by eight, call her by eight. Don't forget to make sure you're at complete leisure to talk to her. There's no point in calling her up only to mouth a quick "I've to go. Bye!" 10 minutes into the conversation.
2. Don't skim or scan her profile. Read it.
Of course you've seen her profile before. Her smile, after all, had been the very thing that made you click on her name. But did you really take the time to read what she had written there? Read her profile again and find out what she likes or loathes. Brush up on her interests. This will later on provide you with materials to talk to her about.
3. Relax.
If you're tempted to pace about nervously while talking to her, stop. Get a'hold of yourself and relax. This is a conversation, not an interrogation. If you have no idea how to begin the conversation, ask her how her day went. You can also try asking her why she decided to send you an invitation or accept the invite you sent her way.
4. Be generous with compliments.
Compliment her. Tell her why you wanted to get to know her better. Note, though, that there is a difference between giving her a compliment and buttering her up. She might not be able to see you, but women instinctively know when a compliment is faked or not.
5. Agree on the right time for you to call next.
If you two had a fun time talking, ask her when you should call her next. Do not ask her for her contact information, however. She will give this to you herself once she feels at ease enough around you.
Oh, and one more thing. Do not turn the first phone conversation into a talk-a-thon. The first chat is all about getting her to open up. There is no need to delve deeply into each other's life stories right away.
How to Set Up a Meeting Point!
When is the right time to ask her out for a first date? I'd say after four phone conversations or more. Here are some tips that will help you overcome the awkwardness of the very first date.
1. Do dress up.
Expect women to give you the once-over the very first time you meet. So, take the time to look clean, if not stylish. Leave the shorts and the flip-flops at home. There is no need to show her the colony of bacteria strapped onto your feet.
2. Do bring her a little token.
Whether it's a bunch of flowers or a box of chocolate, she will be impressed that you had thought of bringing her something.
3. Do compliment her on her looks.
Odds are, she had taken great pains to dress up for the date. Tell her just how pretty she looks. Do not do this, however, if deep-down, you really think she looks like something the cat had dragged in.
4. Do pay attention to what she has to say.
Never interrupt her when she's talking. Maintain eye contact and nod at a point she's making every now and then. This will clue her in that you are listening.
5. Do be a gentleman.
Pick up the bill. Never ask her to foot her share of the meal unless she insists --- and threatens to stab you with a fork if you refuse. Ask how she will be getting home, and offer to drop her off if she does not have her own transport. If she opts to cab home, call her up later to make sure she reached her house safely.
Oh, and if you really had as wonderful a time together as you told her you did, call her up after a day or two, thank her for the date, and ask when it would be a good time to set up the next one. Good chemistry between two people is rare. Don't lose it once you find it.
